I don't believe that people are simply problems to be solved.
We all arrive with our own histories, relationships and experiences. These become part of how we understand ourselves, how we see other people and how we make our way through the world.
Some of the ways we have learnt to live and relate may once have helped us belong, survive or get by. Later, those same ways can leave us feeling stuck or disconnected from ourselves and from the people around us.
Understanding ourselves more deeply can open up the possibility of change. Sometimes that means staying with what is happening now; sometimes it means looking back and becoming curious about how we came to see ourselves and others as we do.
I don't see my role as telling you who you are or giving you a set of answers. I bring my experience, knowledge and curiosity, but you are the one who knows what it is like to live your life.
Our relationship is part of the work. What you find easy to say, what you hold back, what you expect from me, or what happens between us can sometimes illuminate something that has been difficult to see elsewhere.
My training has been integrative, with humanistic and psychodynamic thinking and attachment theory particularly informing how I understand people and relationships. These perspectives are part of what I bring, but the labels are secondary to the person sitting in front of me and what we discover together.
